Authority in Knanaya Sabha

KNANAYA Christians are not to lord over each other. Our personal/ social lives and personal faith are different. The Bible indeed gives a certain level of spiritual authority to church and its leadership
over the spiritual life of the believers. As such there is no authority for knanaya community other than its church and its leadership.

There is no authority that has got control over the social life of knananites. If at all such an authority exists, WHAT, then, is the rightful limit to the authority of the individual over himself? Where
does the authority begin? How much of personal life should be assigned to individuality, and how much to authority?

Paul, one of the greatest apostles, never once claimed control over the personal lives of his followers. He could have easily elevated himself to a self-important and tyrannical position over the church,
yet he knew that he was to be a servant-leader, not an authority.

Authority seems so necessary to all society, but not for knanaya community, which is the narrowest kind of community and the only one in which absolute authority would seem illegitimate. No good purpose
is answered by inventing an authority in order to deduce community obligations. Such authority will often be abused, misused and even go well beyond what the scriptures allow.

Those who seem consistently to enjoy the greatest authority at the level of the local congregation are the elders. Other than the spiritual leadership and the elders I don't think any authority has
unrestrained control over the lives of knananites.

In sum, if anybody expects his authority to be administered directly to the knanaya community, he should be doing it through his transformed and redemptive life.
